Just bought a bike today!!!

Hey guy's, I'm new to mountain biking and I just bought my 2010 Specialized hard rock disk today. I kinda made a dummy mistake of not realizing it wasn't the sport one but it rides smooth and I was planning on upgrading parts as I go anyways. It was between a giant revel which is basically the boulder se or the specialized hard rock. The revel was nice but it made a weird grinding noise and it was just a little uncomfortable (I know I could have bought a new saddle). The price for the specialized was $450 and the revel was $380. My last bike was the schwinn midmoor from amazon. Horrible POS even after being tuned.

So here's some pics of the schwinn and specialized. I hope to get to know you guy's better.

I don't know why the schwinn keeps showing up so big after I edited to a small pic...

Good choice

Welcome to the forums and to the rest of us nutty folks who ride mountain. I ride a Specialized 29'r and love it. There are tons of good bikes out there, but in the end, your rear is going to tell which feels the best and the rest of body will tell you which rides the best. Your bike is a good start to test the waters. But you can bet once you are into mtn bike riding, you won't go back. It's some type of disease that affects us mtn bikers. There's a name for it but for some reason my brain isn't working just right. Must be that "disease".
Have fun and enjoy your new ride. You must be proud b/c you posted it here.
One thing for sure: wear your helmet--it's a must and plain dumb if you don't. LOL.

I am very proud of my bike. I LOVE IT, can't believe my wife let me spend so much money on just a bike. She said it was an early christmas present. She doesn't understand the difference between a department store bike yet but that's okay because I'm planning on getting her a bike to so she can ride with me. I always wear my helmet even though sometimes I feel like a little kid but safety first, my life is more important than looking cool. I have a giro indicator.

I have such a hardtime getting my coworker to understand that her department store bike is gonna fall apart if she keeps riding trails with it. It already did once but she insist that her $200 FS bike is no different from those more expensive high quality bikes. I can only pray for her that she will be safe. She even believes that she'll be safe not wearing a helmet...riding on trails.

Thanks for the reply's.

A happy bike owner...

Well, we're glad, if you're glad. There is no comparison between department store bikes and bike shop bikes. Heavy Huffy's are junk, no matter where you ride 'em. Just like cars, you can buy something really cheap like, say a Yugo(they don't make these anymore, duh) and then buy a BMW and you would see the difference, right? This has always been an argument of people who don't really understand the bike industry. Slapped together does not equal TIG welded frames or carbon fiber. It's pretty simple really.
And geez, the helmet thing. I work at a local hospital and do you have any idea how many head injuries there are from people/kids not wearing a lid? Find some stats for her on the internet and let her read them. That should scare the heck out of her. It can happen and she's a good candidate riding that department store junk. Sooner or later something will happen and she'll be cying why she smashed her punkin'. Keep after her and good for you wearing yours. Actually, other riders make light of those who don't wear a helmet b/c they know better.

I actually kinda like wearing my helmet, now that I really think about it. Makes me feel kinda safe and I feel like I can influence some of the younger kids in my neighborhood to wear a helmet. I always ride by and there like COOL BIKE!!! haha. Anyways, she already mentioned she made a few tumbles but nothing big... I'm like wear a helmet because we don't want to hear about you going to the hospital. (cross my fingers)

About the department store bike thing, I'm always trying to inform my peers about getting department store bikes and riding them on trails. I'm like, that thing that's put together, the so called bike at walmart is not that safe, come with me to the lbs, sometimes they have used ones for around $300 bucks. I'm like, you already decided to spend $250 for that magna, might as well spend another $50 for a really nice bike with better components and a sweet smooth ride.
